Sulphur black dye is insoluble in water, so sulfur dye itself does not have the ability to dye cotton. However, in the aqueous solution of sodium sulfide (Na2S), the dye is reduced to cryptochrome, which has good dyeing performance for cotton. So sulfur dye dyeing is to be carried out in alkali sulfide solution, and to add soda, sodium sulfate and other additives.
