Cotton fabric dyes mainly include the following categories:
Direct dyes: Direct dye can dissolve in water and can directly dye cotton fibers in neutral or weakly alkaline solutions. This dye has complete chromatography, simple dyeing method, and low price, but its color fastness is poor and usually requires post-treatment to fix the color. Common direct dyes include direct black, direct blue, etc.
Reactive dyes: Reactive dyes contain reactive groups that can chemically bind with cellulose fibers, improving color fastness. Reactive dyes have bright colors and are easy to dye, but their fixation rate is low, and some varieties have poor color fastness to chlorine bleaching and weather. Common reactive dyes include reactive black, reactive blue, etc.
Reactive dyes: Reductive dyes are insoluble in water and need to be reduced to a latent color in a reducing agent before being dyed onto cotton fibers and then oxidized and fixed. These dyes have bright colors and excellent sun and soap fastness, but they are expensive and some varieties may become brittle under light. Common reducing dyes include reactive black, reactive blue.
Sulphur dyes: Sulfurization dye is insoluble in water, but can be reduced to a chromophore in sodium sulfide solution to dye cotton fibers. Sulfur dyes are mainly used for dyeing dark products, with good water wash fastness but poor resistance to chlorine bleaching, such as sulphur black br.
These dyes have their own characteristics and are suitable for different dyeing needs and process conditions. Choosing the appropriate dye can improve the dyeing effect and product quality.
