On May 25th, the new container ship X-PRESS PEARL caught fire and exploded in Sri Lanka area.

Due to the leakage of chemical substances in the ship, the fire became more and more intense. 2 crew members were injured and 8 containers fell into the sea.

According to local media reports in Sri Lanka, on the morning of May 25th, an explosion occurred inside the X-PRESS PEARL ship that was on fire.

The cause of the explosion is unknown. The 25 crew members on board are Phillipines, Chinese, Indian and Russian, 14 of whom are Chinese.

Two Indian crew members were injured in the explosion. They have been sent to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the latest photos, the ship has been engulfed by fire and smoke. There are about 1,486 containers on board, including 25 tons of nitric acid and other types of chemicals and cosmetics.

At least 8 containers have fallen into the water.
